Associate Dean and Professor of Law Mary Jo Wiggins

J.D. 1987, University of Michigan
Professor Wiggins was notes editor of the Michigan Law Review and practiced law in Indianapolis before joining the faculty in 1990. She teaches and writes in the areas of property, race, bankruptcy and legal theory. Among her many articles are “Race, Class and Suburbia: The Modern Black Suburb as a ‘Race-Making Situation,’” University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform and “A Statute of Disbelief?: Clashing Ethical Imperatives in Fraudulent Transfer Law,” South Carolina Law Review. She was appointed by United States Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist to the U.S. Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy. The Judicial Conference is the national policymaking body of the federal courts. She is also a former chair of the American Association of Law Schools’ Section on Creditors’ and Debtors’ Rights. She is a contributing author to Collier on Bankruptcy, the leading scholarly treatise in the field.

Professor Roy L. Brooks served as a senior editor of the Yale Law Journal, clerked for the Honorable Clifford Scott Green of the U.S. District Court in Philadelphia and practiced corporate law with Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York City, before joining the faculty in 1979. He teaches and writes in the areas of civil procedure, civil rights, employment discrimination and critical theory. He is the author of more than 20 books and supplements, including Rethinking the American Race Problem (University of California Press) and Integration or Separation? A Strategy for Racial Equality (Harvard University Press), both of which received the Gustavus Meyers Outstanding Book Award for civil rights, and most recently, Atonement and Forgiveness: A New Model for Black Reparations. Brooks has also written more than 100 articles and book chapters and presented more than 100 papers. He is a member of the American Law Institute.
